I am an organizational freak. I love having everything in its place and to have things neat and tidy. I love any products that help keep things organized, orderly, and gives things a designated home. So needless to say, I love Rubbermaid. They have some awesome products that I seriously covet. When I found out I was getting to review one of their newest products I was super excited.
Rubbermaid keeps coming up with new and creative products. One of these awesome new products is the Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler. This Hidden Recycler is designed to be an easy and convenient way to hold recyclables, yet stay just out of sight. You attach the Hidden Recycler to a cupboard door so your recycleables are off the counter and out of the way. The Hidden Recycler has many great details:
- Easy attachment to a cabinet door with hooks included with the product or screws
- A convenient handle allows the bag to easily be transported to wherever your recycling is stored for pick-up or transport
- A 5 gallon bag that holds up to 36 12-ounce cans and can fit a milk jug
- The bag has a leak-proof liner and is machine washable to make it easy to clean after any unexpected spills
- The bag is soft-sided allowing for flexibility inside any cabinet
- The bag and all packaging is made from recyclable material, and the product is recyclable
We have been using the Hidden Recycler in our house for a few weeks now. We hung it from the cupboard door underneath our sink in our kitchen. This is probably the best location for most people too. The recycler was not too difficult to set up. The kids helped me put it together and attach it to the door, and they were able to figure it out. The recycler fits perfectly on the door. I’m thinking it should be a great fit for most houses. I loved having the recycle bin out of site. In our house before we had the big blue bin sitting on the kitchen counter – so not attractive! This recycler cleared off precious counter space and eliminated the unsightly bin. It took us a few tries to figure out how to remove the container to dump it but we got it down and then it was super easy. We kept wanting to lift the handle with the lid down. So note – lift the lid, then the handle and it will come off smoothly.
I think the look and use of the Hidden Recycler is easiest to explain through pictures so here is a quick breakdown for you:

Dump the contents into your curbside bin. The recycler even has a little handle to make emptying it even easier
I drink a ton of soda and the cans always spill some, so the inside of the recycler got pretty dirty pretty quickly. Luckily it is water proof so you can wipe down the inside with a washcloth or disinfectant wipe to get it clean. It even is machine washable. I poured some water and soap in, and scrubbed to see how it held up – it did great. I got the outside a bit wet when I did that and it had to hang dry for a while, but the recycler held up great, cleaned up perfectly, and looked like new when I finished. The only downside is wish it was larger. We have a large family and we fill it really quickly. But I don’t think they could make it any larger and have it still fit on the cupboard door. For most people this will not be a problem at all – just huge families that recycle a lot like ours.
Overall I’m very happy with the Hidden Recycler. It does what it claims, looks great, and lasts. I love the idea of hiding the Recyclables, and they have tackled that issue with the perfect solution. It’s easy to use and easy to clean. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.
The Hidden Recycler is brand new to the market so keep your eyes out at your local retailers for it, or you can buy it now at Rubbermaid.com. The MSRP is $15.99, which I think is a great price, and you may be able to find it for even less depending on sales. The Hidden Recycler is definitely worth it!

I’m in the middle. I lean toward organizational freak because of the Virgo in me, but it’s hard in my house to ever keep it the way I want at all times.
