Your kids are going to fall in love with an amazing new product I recently discovered. Cypher Kids Club Reality Cards are tangible learning cards that interact with your iphone, ipad, or ipod via “augmented reality” to create a fun 3D learning environment. By using the cypher kids cards and an app on your phone you can make letters, numbers, and wild animals all come to life in your hands.
I recently picked up two set of Cypher Kids Club Reality Cards by Cypher Entertainment at the Apple Store online. We bought the letter and number sets of cards to try out. You can read all about my shopping trip at Google+. The two sets of cards were delivered right to my door. Upon their arrival I was very impressed – the cards are made of a sturdy cardboard so I knew they could withstand the beating I knew my kids would give them.
To make the cards come to life you download a free app and hold the card in front of the camera of the iphone, ipad, or ipod. The app will read the card and bring the card to life. I can’t even explain how neat it is to see the letters and numbers become 3D right in front of your eyes. You don’t even need to have 3D glasses! The cards use “augmented reality” to create a 3D world were the children can learn and have a blast.
We used the Cypher kids cards on my iphone 5. After I got the app downloaded I handed the phone and the cards to my kids. They had no problem figuring out how to use the cards and within a few seconds had everything up and interacting. All of my kids where absolutely fascinated. They just wouldn’t put these down – I don’t think I’m ever going to get my phone back!
One great feature of these cards is that not only are the images 3D and interactive, but the images can be “placed” on items in your house. Whatever is in the camera shot shows through on the app, so you an place the images on a table, hand, or even your brother’s head. They kids loved putting their faces into the shot and pretending to eat the letters or balance the numbers on their nose.
I love any products that are both entertaining and educational. These cards definitely succeed at that. These even had my “I hate school” 10 year old playing with the numbers and letters. I was blown away! Next time I go to the store I’m going to pick up the third type of cards – wild animals. I just know my kids will love putting 3D animals all over our house.
