Are you looking for a quick and easy way to entertain your kids? Look no further than your kitchen cupboards. You can get the kids in the spirit get get rid of boredom by grabbing all those cookie cutters sitting in your cupboards. Cookie Cutter Art is a simple art project that can keep those kids entertained for a long time. You can adapt the project for any theme or holiday by adjusting the shapes of the cookie cutters and the color of the paint.
The supplies you need are cookie cutters, tempera paint (the typical kids paint), paper, and plates to hold the paint. If you want to get even more creative you can also get some glitter. To make it easier for the kids to spread the glitter just put it in an empty salt shaker.

Pour the paint out onto a plate making it not too deep. The deeper the paint the longer it will take to dry and the more likely it is to run. Look through you cupboards to find creative cookie cutters for the kids to use. I chose hearts for valentines, but you can choose anything really.

Let the kids dip the cookie cutter in the paint and then on the paper. They can get quite creative with their designs.

Once they have finished they can sprinkle the glitter over the paint. To remove the extra glitter fold the paper loosely like a taco and pour the glitter onto a spare plate.

If you want to get your kids to explore their creative side, need a group project, or just want to stop hearing the words “I’m bored”, this is a quick and easy idea. Most people have these items already in their house, so pull them out and get those kids entertained.

Great idea. I’ll have to remember this for next year
I like it. You don’t have to spend a lot to give kids a fun project to do.
very clever idea. I think my children would love to do this.
What a great craft idea for kids… Thank you
i like that
I have about 300 cookie cutters! LOL, and now I’m thinking, what else can I do with them?
One year for my neighbor I traced a bunch of them and then made copies. I made a “coloring” book of sorts for the neighboorhood kids. I called it the Cookie Coloring book. Not so creative I know. I gave each kid a 24(?) set of CRayola Crayons and a coupon for mom to go to the Crayola Factory (it’s literally 2 minutes from my house). The kids were to decorate the “cookies” from the tracings. Some of the cookie cutters are rather nebulous in what they are so underneath each cookie tracing I wrote “STAR” or whatever it was. Like on the round ones I just put “Design your own Cookie”.
Cheap and cool, huh?
So simple! I forget to look through my kitchen for craft items…but the kids do raelly love using the garlic press to make playdough hair!
great idea, wish I had thought of this when my kids were young
So ironic that I read this yesterday and must have had it on my mind because I had to do some emergency baby sitting for a friend while she and her husband jetted off to the ER. Mom had cut here hand pretty badly on a glass that broke. Anyway, there was so much blood I guess and the two girls were pale white. Dad brought them over to my house. Anyway, to distract them I took your craft and we make mom “cards”. Funny get well cards. The kids used the cookie cutters for stamps and wrote things inside the cards. It seemed to calm them down because by the time dad came to get the kids they were just laughing and bouncing around. Mom is OK, btw. Tons of sutures but no ligament or muscle damage considering how deep the laceration went.
Boy that sure does look like fun! The designs turned out nice and sparkly. Im afraid my Grandkids would have the paint all over themselves and the kitchen..I would probably use crayons or washable kids colored markers to trace the cookie cutter shape Then use stick glue and sprinkle with glitter…
I just dug out my St Pattys cookie cutters and we are going to try this!
What a cute idea! I love it.
